Facebook Ad Specs

The dimensions, ratios, and limits for Facebook feed, Reels, and Stories ads — in one table. Meta tweaks these over time, so treat this as a working reference and confirm anything critical in Ads Manager before you export.

Text and file guidelines

  • Primary text: ~125 characters shows before the "See more" cutoff on mobile.
  • Video file: MP4 or MOV, H.264, up to 4GB.
  • Images: JPG or PNG, 1080px+ on the short side.
  • Captions: most feed video plays muted — burn in captions.

Hitting the specs is the easy part

Correct dimensions get your ad accepted, not watched. The 4:5 frame and 1080p resolution matter only because they buy you screen space for the thing that actually decides performance: whether the first frame stops the scroll (see best aspect ratio for video ads and what makes an ad scroll-stopping). A perfectly-sized ad with a dead hook still gets swiped.

Test the creative, not just the export settings

Once the file meets spec, the real question is whether it earns a good CTR and holds attention. Predicting hook strength before launch tells you that without burning budget. See Facebook ad creative testing.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Facebook ad specs?

Feed ads use 1:1 (1080×1080) or 4:5 (1080×1350); Reels and Stories use 9:16 (1080×1920). Recommend at least 1080px on the shortest side, MP4 or MOV for video, and JPG or PNG for images. Meta updates specs periodically, so confirm current values in Ads Manager before final export.

What is the best aspect ratio for Facebook ads?

For feed, 4:5 vertical takes the most screen space on mobile and usually outperforms square. For Reels and Stories, full-screen 9:16 is required. Match the aspect ratio to the placement rather than uploading one 16:9 file everywhere.

How long can a Facebook video ad be?

Technically up to 241 minutes in feed, but that's irrelevant — most attention is won or lost in the first few seconds. Reels cap at 90 seconds and Stories at 60 per card. Length isn't the constraint; holding attention is.
